Mechanism & Pharmacokinetics ▼
Mechanism: Sertraline selectively inhibits serotonin reuptake in the CNS, increasing serotonin availability in the synaptic cleft, which improves mood and reduces anxiety.
Pharmacokinetics: Well absorbed orally; peak plasma concentration ~4–8 hours. Metabolized in the liver (CYP2B6, CYP2D6) to inactive metabolites. Half-life ~26 hours. Excreted mainly in urine and feces.
