Impetigo: Treatment of impetigo caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.

Mechanism: Retapamulin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit at a unique site, blocking peptidyl transferase activity and preventing bacterial growth.
Pharmacokinetics: Minimal systemic absorption after topical application on intact skin. Absorbed drug is metabolized in the liver, mainly via CYP3A4, and eliminated primarily through feces.
