Mechanism & Pharmacokinetics ▼
Mechanism: Binds to bacterial cell membrane phospholipids, increasing membrane permeability and causing leakage of intracellular components leading to bacterial cell death.
Pharmacokinetics: Poor oral absorption; administered parenterally or topically. Distributed mainly in extracellular fluid. Eliminated primarily via kidneys. Half-life approximately 6–12 hours depending on renal function.
