Mechanism & Pharmacokinetics ▼
Mechanism: Olmesartan blocks angiotensin II (AT1) receptors causing vasodilation; Hydrochlorothiazide increases sodium and water excretion via inhibition of sodium reabsorption in distal tubules, reducing plasma volume and blood pressure.
Pharmacokinetics: Olmesartan is a prodrug converted in GI tract; HCTZ absorbed orally; peak levels within 1–2 hours; elimination via renal excretion; additive antihypertensive effect.
