Mechanism: Valsartan blocks angiotensin II receptors, reducing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. Hydrochlorothiazide inhibits sodium reabsorption in the distal tubules, promoting diuresis and lowering blood pressure.
Pharmacokinetics: Valsartan: Oral bioavailability ~25%, peak 2–4 h, mainly excreted in feces; half-life 6 h. HCTZ: Rapidly absorbed, peak 1–5 h, excreted renally; half-life 6–15 h.
