Mechanism & Pharmacokinetics ▼
Mechanism: Tenoxicam inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), reducing prostaglandin synthesis. This results in analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects.
Pharmacokinetics: Well absorbed orally. Highly protein bound. Long elimination half-life of about 60–75 hours allowing once-daily dosing. Metabolized in the liver and excreted mainly via urine and bile.

Contraindications ▼
History of NSAID-induced asthma or allergy
Active peptic ulcer or GI bleeding
Severe heart failure
Severe renal or hepatic impairment
Third trimester of pregnancy
Drug Interaction ▼
Anticoagulants and antiplatelets: increased bleeding risk
Corticosteroids: increased GI ulcer risk
ACE inhibitors and diuretics: reduced antihypertensive effect
Other NSAIDs: increased adverse effects
Lithium and methotrexate: increased toxicity
Pregnancy & Lactation ▼
Avoid during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester
May cause premature closure of ductus arteriosus
Use during lactation only if clearly necessary
